In 1912 Chicago businessman Byron L. Smith and four other forward-thinking businessmen started a company to manufacture and sell metal-cutting tools. That company became Illinois Tool Works (ITW). Today, ITW is a Fortune 200 company with its corporate headquarters in Glenview, IL.
